It has been a while since I’ve seen this film. I watched this when it first came out on DVD and it is due for a rewatch for me. From the thoughts in this review, it can be difficult when you are trying to make a prequel to films that are already established. I will say though that a perk of this film is the technology used is in line with the technology that was available and I like that.

Going off what I already stated, I do feel that this film had some pacing issues. It is trying to build up what happening, but I thought it was a little bit boring in doing so. The previous two had minor scares all the way until the climax and that gave to satisfying endings. For this one, I thought it was lacking that.

I do feel that the acting in this film was good. I thought Lauren Bittner as the mother was solid. She is in an interesting place that she has two young girls and she is trying to get married. Going from there, Christopher Nicholas Smith is good in that role of a man who is marrying into quite a bit without any worry. He is also the one that is introducing the cameras to make this one found footage. Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown play Katie and Kristi as children. I thought they were both good as well. I like that they don’t really present the characters as we know them and did their own thing. I think that in a film like this, they really need to. The film made a good choice to show Featherston and Grayden in the beginning of the film to establish before going into the past as well.

From what I remember there isn’t really a soundtrack, which if you know me I like for found-footage films. Unless you have ambient music, there shouldn’t be any as it takes away from the feeling of realism.

I would still say to give it a watch. I came in with high expectations and this one didn’t live up to mine. They continue to carry the story for certain parts and then neglect others. If they would stick with an idea and flesh it out more, then I think that would add quite a bit. They unfortunately did not. This one isn’t horrible, but it does fall short of the first two. I do think that it has good acting though. It has been some time since I’ve seen it so I do need to rewatch this one as well.

My Rating: 6 out of 10
